Siberian Cat Standard

  • The head is a large, rounded modified wedge; broader at the skull and narrowing slightly to a voluminous round muzzle. There may be a slight muzzle break, but the transition between the side of the head and the muzzle is gentle and inconspicuous.

  • The cheek bones are neither high set or prominent. There should be a good distance between the ears and the eyes.

  • The chin is well rounded but not protruding. The whisker pads are broad, yet not very distinctive. The whiskers are strong and long.

  • The ears are medium large, wide and low-set; set as much on the sides of the head as on top; the tips are rounded. Because of the low setting, the ears may appear to be medium in size. Lynx tipping is desirable.

  • Hair over the back of the ears is short and thin. From the middle of the ear, the hairs become longer and cover the base completely.

  • The large, almost oval eyes are set wide. There is no relationship between eye color and coat color and pattern.

  • The Siberian is a semi-longhaired cat with hair on the shoulder blades and lower part of the chest being thick and slightly shorter. There are slight differences in the length, feel, and texture of the hair between different colors, which is normal. For example, a black might be silkier to the touch than a brown mackerel tabby. There should be an abundant ruff setting off the large, impressive head.

  • On the belly and britches, the hair can thicken to thick curls, but a wavy coat is not characteristic. The skin is very tough, almost like leather and may have a bluish color.

  • The Siberians are very communicative, with soft and pleasant voices, almost like chirping. They are very devoted, cuddly and playful.
